Editions and licence types
What the Free, Atelier, Pro and School editions include, the difference between yearly, perpetual and lifetime licences, seats and upgrades.
Tarz Studio is one application. Your licence key decides which features are unlocked, so you never reinstall to upgrade.
Editions
- Free: every tool to try Tarz Studio. Export is limited in size; it never expires.
- Atelier: for home embroiderers and small workshops: all fonts and motifs, auto-digitizing from images, unlimited export to home machine formats.
- Pro: for shops and digitizers: all machine formats, manual digitizing tools, production worksheet, batch export, team names, sending to machines and the Tarz Studio 2.0 stitch techniques.
- School: everything in Pro, plus teaching mode and a pool of seats for a classroom.

Licence types
- Yearly: the edition for 12 months, with every update released during that time. Renew to keep it.
- Perpetual: you keep the version you bought for ever, with updates for the period stated on the pricing page. You can later buy an update extension.
- Lifetime bundle: when offered, a single payment that includes the edition and its updates for the lifetime of the product, plus the extras listed with the offer.
Seats
A seat is one computer. Each licence shows its number of seats in your account (Licences). Move a seat to a new computer yourself: see Move your licence to a new computer.
Working offline
After activation, the licence is checked on your computer with a digital signature. Tarz Studio works without internet for long periods; it only needs to connect occasionally to refresh the licence.
Upgrades
From your account, Upgrade shows the price difference to a higher edition. The new key replaces the old one on the same seats; your designs and settings are kept.
